The Alouettes have done it once again, earning another impressive victory on Saturday with a 48-30 win over the Edmonton Elks at home. With the win, Montreal improves to an impressive 8-1 record.
The Alouettes' offence showed once again why it is considered one of the best in the CFL. Coming into the week, Edmonton's defence had allowed the fewest offensive points per game in the league, but Montreal quickly proved to be up for the challenge.
Davis Alexander and Tyson Philpot led the way with standout performances.
Alexander was outstanding through the air, completing 22 of 28 passes for 382 yards and four touchdowns. Travis Theis also delivered a big performance on the ground, rushing for 100 yards while adding another 41 receiving yards.
Philpot was nearly unstoppable, hauling in 10 receptions for 131 yards and three touchdowns. Tyler Snead was another major contributor, making several big plays on deep passes and finishing the game with 146 receiving yards.
The two receivers continue to establish themselves as one of the league's most dangerous duos, combining for an incredible 2,094 receiving yards this season, with Philpot at 1,154 yards and Snead at 940.
But the offence wasn't the only reason Montreal came away with the victory.
The Alouettes' defence made several crucial plays throughout the game, including multiple forced turnovers by linebacker Gemon Green and Tyrice Beverette. Those takeaways played a pivotal role in slowing down the Edmonton offence and helping Montreal maintain control of the game.
Linebacker Kylan Guidry also came up with a huge special-teams play, blocking an Edmonton punt and completely swinging the momentum in Montreal's favour. The play gave the Alouettes excellent field position and helped set up another scoring opportunity.
With their record now sitting at 8-1, the Alouettes will have some time to rest and prepare during their upcoming bye week.
Montreal will return to action on Thursday, August 20, when they host the Ottawa Redblacks.
